Matthew Gilbert is head of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) team of Maples and Calder in London. Matthew is a widely experienced corporate lawyer, and advises on finance, banking and corporate law matters involving BVI companies and partnerships, including public and private mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and joint ventures, debt and equity financings, property and asset financings.
Matthew specialises in the listing of BVI companies on international Stock Exchanges including London Stock Exchange/AIM, Nasdaq and Toronto Stock Exchange. Matthew also advises on BVI insurance and regulatory law, and regularly contributes to industry journals including PLC, International Corporate Rescue, Captive Review and FINalternatives.
Matthew co-wrote the BVI chapters of the International Mergers & Acquisitions Review 2014 and the International Comparative Legal Guide to Lending and Secured Finance 2014, and is an editor of, and co-contributor to, the BVI text book Financial Services Demystified.

Matthew joined Maples and Calder in the British Virgin Islands in 2007 and is now based in London office. He previously worked for Lester Aldridge in the UK.
