Pericles is glad to inform you that Pericles LL.M. student, Varvara Puzyrkova, has been selected as the honored student of November 2011 due to her new successful career at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP, and her academic achievements. In Spring of 2010 Varvara started at Pericles in our Legal English course and then went on in September 2010 to take Legal Writing I. After taking these courses, she applied for Pericles LL.M. program and won the Leading Students' Scholarship for Spring 2011. At the same time, she has gotten the job many lawyers are still dreaming about.
Varvara's hometown is Kemerovo. Since 9th grade she participated in all-Russian Law competition (Olympiad). In 2006 she received second place and was accepted to Moscow State University without exams. While studying at MSU, she focused her studies in the areas of commercial law and advertising, particularly product placement, but she was also interested in such areas of law as corporate law and real estate.
In 2010 she started to work at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld, LLP as a paralegal. After her graduation from Moscow State University in 2011, she was promoted to the position of junior associate. Her practice focuses on general corporate matters, M&A transactions, as well antimonopoly matters.
Akin Gump is a major U.S. and international law firm with over 800 attorneys in multiple U.S. offices as well as in Moscow, London, Geneva and Abu Dhabi. The firm is famed for its active participation in pro-bono projects, and for its great working environment and its flexible and supportive attitude towards women and minorities in the workplace. Varvara joined the office of about 30 top attorneys in Moscow, where they specialize in capital markets, M&A, energy, finance, litigation and public policy.
What makes us extremely proud of Varvara is that her bosses at Akin Gump are very pleased with her work, and especially with the legal writing skills she learned at Pericles. When we asked Partner, Souren Gortsunyan, about her work, he stated that Varvara is a great young lawyer, in high demand from the senior lawyers and partners at Akin Gump Moscow. Keep up the good work, Varvara!
Varvara thanks our professors for her ahievements:
I would like to thank all Pericles professors, especially Andrew Mendelsohn and Jeff Mohney. With no doubt I can say that if not Pericles I would not working now in such amazing and prestigious firm.
We congratulate you again, Varvara!
