We at Pericles would like to congratulate Victor Kochemirovskiy, our December, 2010, Student of the Month! Victor symbolizes the success that we try to help our students strive to obtain. After completing a troika of test preparation classes - Toefl, GRE, and GMAT - Victor scored amazingly well on all three exams, capped by a 760 on GMAT! Victor's scores are so high that he now faces the predicament of whether to take a MS in Finance as he initially intended or to apply for an MBA. Would that all of our students here at Pericles face such problems!
Victor graduated this year with BA in Economics with honors from the Higher School of Economics, where he specialized in Mathematical Methods of Economic Analysis.
While a student, he took part in a couple of summer internships, including at the Moscow branch of BNP Paribas in 2008. He returned to BNP Paribas this January to become an intern in Energy & Commodities Structured Finance and was soon promoted to Junior Credit Analyst. As an analyst, he prepares credit proposals in which he presents potential clients’ businesses and provides credit risk analyses of prospective borrowers and their sureties, as well as market research of relevant industries.
Since January, he has prepared several files for Trade Finance facilities in favor of Russian companies, including a $60m revolving line for a petroleum refinery. Apart from oil and oil products companies, he also deals with producers of other commodities such as fertilizers, grains, oil-bearing crops, etc. Given the ever-increasing intricacy of commodity markets, his academic background has undoubtedly proved helpful.
However, even enjoying the enthralling complexity of his current job, he is still eager to face new academic horizons and advance in science, which is reflected by his credentials, a 9.17 average mark, and successful participation in various student competitions. Moreover, his final thesis was included in the 2010 shortlist of best theses recommended for publishing in his faculty’s academic digest, expected to come out next year.
To excel in finance, he wants to continue his education abroad. Notably, last year he was admitted to an MSc program in Financial Economics in Erasmus School of Economics in Rotterdam; however, he decided to stay in Moscow and gain work experience while trying to explore new opportunities for his further studies. Having passed GMAT with a score of 760, Victor knows that he now has to use it wisely!
In his free time,Victor adores contemporary music and tries to visit various live shows and festivals in Russia and abroad. Among the latest were the unforgettable U2 360 concert in Moscow and Arcade Fire in Munich. As for sports, he is an enthusiastic skier, both on snow and on water.
Victor wanted to add that he is really grateful to the Pericles professors, and to Andrew Mendelssohn in particular, who are always so helpful and encouraged him to come back for the GMAT course this September after the TOEFL course last year.
