Dmitry Vasutinsky
Student of the Month
April 2002

GMAT score: 680
TOEFL score: 277

Dmitry, Pericles’ April Student of the Month, received his diploma with honors, in Economics, from the Peoples' Friendship University here in Moscow. In addition to receiving a degree in economics, Dmitry has also received a qualification in French and studied in a full-time executive course at Australian Graduate School of Management in Sydney.

After studying at the Peoples' Friendship University, Dmitry got a job in an aircraft leasing and operations business. While working in Russia Dmitry served as the General Manager of Aerolift Eurasia, a Singapore based fixed wing and helicopters operation. This company has worked with such corporations as Amoco, Shell, Chevron, and the UN. It should be noted here that it was at this time that Dmitry studied in Australia. It should also be noted that Dmitry worked in this company from 1993-1997 and at this time lived and worked not only in Australia but also in Singapore and New Guinea. However, after 6 years of international experience and traveling all around, Dmitry found it high time to return to Russia.

It was here in Russia that Dmitry got his current job as General Manager for Redwing Ltd., an Australian owned private equity investment fund located here in Moscow. As well as being GM he also represents the fund on a number of boards including some public Russian companies. However, like most of our students, Dmitry wanted more, so he decided to get an MBA. This is when he took Pericles' GMAT prep in December 2000 after which he took the exam and received a 680 we should also mention that he received a 277 on his TOEFL and this TOEFL score was with practically no preparation, just to show you his level of English. To continue, after having obtained this score and researching his options Dmitry decided on LBS Sloan Program. Well, with his track record and his personality we knew that LBS would not refuse such a quality applicant and we were right. Only recently Dmitry received word that LBS accepted him into their Sloan Program starting this September.

However, like so many students Dmitry has to worry about paying for his education and he found the resources. Dmitry's current company thinks that his education is very important and therefore they have decided to give him a loan. With what the loan does not cover Dmitry has decided on using his own resources rather than taking out another loan from a bank. After his studies Dmitry is planning on becoming a senior executive, specializing in corporate strategy/business development and getting a job in one of the following areas: i-banking, hi-tech, or energy.

Dmitry, we wish you luck and would like to say that LBS is lucky to have you as a student and future graduate of their Sloan Program!

Postscriptum: In February 2003, Dmitry wrote to us to tell us that he is in the middle of his second term at Sloan and expects to graduate in August. Although second term is not as intensive as the first, he tells us that he still spends lots of time studying. He loves London Business School, and in particular the finance & accounting faculty. He is about to start that job search process, and, although times are tough in London right now, he has high hopes. Keep up the good work Dmitry, and best of luck in your remaining studies and in your career.
